The Atyrau Sturgeon Hatchery

The Atyrau Sturgeon Hatchery is a unique ecological center designed to preserve and increase the population of sturgeon fish in the Caspian Sea. This plant is an important facility in the protection of Kazakhstan’s natural resources. The enterprise, commissioned in 1998, annually releases millions of fry into the Zhayik-Caspian basin, making a significant contribution to the restoration of the region’s ecosystem.

Activities of the plant:

  • Raising sturgeon fry: increasing the number of rare fish species such as beluga, Russian sturgeon, and sterlet;
  • Release into nature: preserving fish stocks in the Caspian Sea by releasing artificially grown fry into the natural environment.

The plant is equipped with modern technologies, including aeration systems and high-efficiency equipment for fish farming. The necessary conditions for sturgeon are carefully monitored.

For tourists:

The Atyrau Sturgeon Hatchery is a special destination for tourists who want to explore the natural resources of the region. Production tours are organized for visitors, offering the opportunity to see with their own eyes how sturgeon fish are raised. In addition, complete information is provided about the important work being done to restore the ecosystem.

How to get there?

The plant is located about 15 km from the city of Atyrau, along the Atyrau-Erkinkala highway. You can use your own car or a taxi to visit.
