Monument to Khamit Yergaliyev

The prominent poet, fiery narrator, and master of Kazakh artistic expression, Khamit Yergaliyev, was born in 1916 in the village of Novobogat in the Isatai district of the Atyrau region. Currently, this village is named Khamit Yergaliyev village in honor of the poet. From June 1940, he was called up for military service, serving as a squadron commander in cavalry units. During the harsh years of the Great Patriotic War, he was severely wounded in the bloody battles near Budapest and was returned to his homeland in January 1945. For outstanding services and heroism to the Motherland, he was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War II degree, two Orders of the Red Banner of Labor, the Order of the Badge of Honor, the Order of Friendship of Peoples, and many medals.

Khamit Yergaliyev’s first poems were published in 1936 and found their way to the hearts of readers. Being the author of more than thirty books, Kh. Yergaliyev left an indelible mark on Kazakh literature mainly as an epic poet. Each of his works awakened the national spirit and led his readers to deep reflections. In 1982, he became a laureate of the Abay State Prize for his book “Altyn Zeren.” And in 1986, for his great contribution to the development of Kazakh literature, he was awarded the title of People’s Writer of Kazakhstan. The poet, who became the pride of the nation, passed away in 1997 at the age of 81.

The writer’s monument is erected facing the Zhaiyk River, which demonstrates his love for his native land. The monument is cast in bronze and installed on a granite pedestal. The total height is 7 meters. The height of the pedestal is 4 meters, and the height of the sculpture is 3 meters.

The author of the monument is the famous sculptor Nurgalym Isabayev. The monument is intended to perpetuate the memory of the poet’s life and work.
