On September 14, 2003, the “Isatay-Makhambet” architectural and memorial complex was solemnly opened in honor of the 200th anniversary of Makhambet Utemisov. The complex is located in the city center and has become a favorite place of recreation for residents and visitors of the city. The authors of this complex are: Architects – Bukebay Samatbek Tazhenuly, Taitaliyev Baktybay Khalykuly; Sculptors – Abishev Bakhyt and Sergebayev Yesken.
The “Isatay-Makhambet” complex was highly appreciated at the International Festival in Moscow and at the International Architectural Exhibition in Florence, receiving a gold diploma. The authors were able to skillfully embody the people’s aspiration for freedom and their dreams in sculpture. State and public figure Imangali Tasmagambetov was the author of the concept and the ideologist of this project.
Description of the monument: In the central part of the complex, there is a two-figured equestrian composition, where the height of each figure is 5.1 meters, and the height of the pedestal is 2 meters. The base of the composition consists of a 3-step stylobate, which is used as a tribune for viewers. The stylobate is completely covered with granite. The total height of the monument is 11.1 meters. On the back of the monument, in the 9-meter part called “Kurgan”, the bas-relief “Edil-Zhayik” (14×2.8 m) cast in bronze is located. The total area of the recreation area is 4.8 hectares.
In 2018-2019, restoration work was carried out in the “Isatay-Makhambet” architectural and memorial complex. 6 pools and a fountain were installed on the square, as well as a unique architectural composition in the form of a marble dombra. Currently, the square is one of the most prominent and popular places in the city.
