Lotus Valley

In July and August, lotus flowers bloom in the channels of the Kygach and Sharonovka rivers of the Kurmangazy district. This region is the northernmost point of the distribution area for tropical flowers. Delicate lotus flowers floating on the surface of the water amaze travelers with their beauty. Kazakhs call this flower “shamgul”, because it is valued as a symbol of purity and light.

To get to the lotus fields, you need to travel about 300 kilometers from Atyrau, and then a few kilometers by water on a boat from the village of Kurmangazy (Ganyushkino). Despite these difficulties, for tourists, the opportunity to see a rare sight is an invaluable experience.
